Marta * , 56. Post-menopausal with ongoing health issues, on the road to osteoporosis.

Main concerns - High Cholesterol, osteopenia, liver issues. Since Marta entered menopause her cholesterol levels went up considerably. She had pressure from her physician to take statins, which she wanted to avoid. Her bone density was decreasing, and, with a family history of osteoporosis, it was a cause of concern. Marta also suffered from a persistent liver issue that she was dealing with since she had hepatitis B, 28 years ago. She was self-medicating and was in pain whenever she drank alcohol or ate fatty foods. When she was stressed or feeling overloaded she also had pain in her liver area. She suffered from anxiety and considerable stress, and was feeling quite fatigued recently. Her memory and concentration were quite poor. Claudia had a history of recurrent antibiotic use, for frequent throat infections. She had breast implants that rupture and got infected, and laser surgery in the eye to correct vision. She also had a history of toe fungus and thrush. Her BMI was below normal, she always had a slim figure. Claudia likes to exercise, does some light cardio and body weight exercises at home, but hasn’t found the motivation or time for it recently.

Diet before consultation - 2-3 coffees a day, bread for breakfast and often for dinner, high dairy. Lunch was balanced. Not eating many greens or variety of vegetables. Very low protein in the morning and evening meals. She was willing to change her diet, but in small steps, as she was used to eating like this all her life.
Plan - Our main goals were to increase her nutrient intake, support her liver, and her nervous system, and balance blood sugar to improve energy and concentration. The diet changes I suggested made a big difference in her nutrient input, and she felt immediate difference in her energy and overall wellbeing. Her goals were achievable and realistic to what she was willing to change. She got herself new habits that support her wellbeing, like having a green smoothie every morning. We managed to improve her liver detoxification capability and function, through diet and supplementation. I also gave her plenty of suggestions on how to improve her bone density, including weight bearing exercises and lower caffeine intake. Her cholesterol levels were also dealt with.
Result - After only a couple of appointments, Marta came back to me full of energy, with less anxiety, and was coping with stressful situations better.
Her cholesterol levels were coming down, which made her physician happy. She was very impressed by her last bone density test - it was actually increasing. She rarely felt pain in her liver, after dealing with that for 28 years was a big relief for her. She left very inspired to follow a healthy lifestyle and improve her diet even more. We are now doing preventative work, her aim is to age with vitality, and I’m doing my best to help her achieve that. We are also dealing with any symptoms that show up. Her sciatica was bothering her for a while, and she had an issue with a nerve in her foot for example. Marta knows she can come to me and I’ll help her however I can.

Matt * , 35. Working long hours, overweight, poor eating and lifestyle habits
Main concerns - weight gain, tiredness, IBS, skin issues Matt runs a restaurant, meaning he was eating at erratic times (5 am – at the end of the work night, when the establishment closes), was drinking a lot of alcohol most work nights and used cocaine once a week. He was sleeping 4 hours a night 4 times a week, and over 10 hours the other nights. He would wake up feeling tired no matter how many hours he slept. He gained 2 stones the past year. Had loose stools and urgency.
Matt suffered from acne, eczema and hayfever. He works in an environment where people smoke which caused shortness of breath. He also had palpitations related to cocaine use. He smoked around 5 cigarettes a day. Urine was dark orange.
Diet before consultation - sugar cravings, ate in the middle of the night on working nights and used to eat chocolate late at night. Diet consisted of a lot of bread and cheese, and heavy meals. Had white fish 3 times a week, and red meat twice a week. Diet was low in greens, medium vegetable intake. Drank water mainly in the morning.
Plan - The plan focused on support endocrine and digestive systems to improve mood, energy levels and reduce cravings; investigate and support adrenal function; and strengthen immune system by promoting gut health.
I wanted to find out which foods he was intolerant to, and turned out that dairy and coffee aggravated his symptoms. After cutting those foods out from his diet, alongside with gluten, his eczema subsided and allergy symptoms as well. He managed to replace his negative and destructive patterns to cope with stress with more positive measures, which helped to calm his mind and body. He decreased his cigarette and cocaine intake, and took on exercise 3 times a week, which had a great effect in improving mood and the ability to handle stressful situations. I taught him the importance to eat in a relaxed environment and not rushed, and have regular meals. This had a big impact on his digestion and energy.
Result - Matt had a great improvement on his wellbeing, energy levels and stress. Waist circumference reduced from 97cm to 90cm. He does not have energy fluctuations. His bowel movements normalized after a change in diet. Although he cannot change his work hours in order to stabilize his sleeping patterns, his improved diet and the effect it had on his wellbeing shows the importance of proper nutrition on overall health.
